The Nation's Top 10 Collegiate Musical Theater Programs In The United States
www.buzzfeed.com: he Nation’s Top 10 Collegiate Musical Theater Programs in the United States.
Auditioning for different collegiate programs is one of the biggest decisions of a young performers life. Looking at the current percentage rate of working actors from the colleges listed below it is safe to say that there is a reason that these ten schools make the cut. Schools that are on this list are rated by four categories.

I always question if I should comment on these articles...but I am. I feel like I see a new top 10 list of musical theater programs every week. They contain the same schools in basically the same order with CMU in the top three. Before I get into the rest of the comment, I want to make it clear that I'm a fan of these rankings because they create awareness of all the programs out there. However, are they really trustworthy? This article is written by, broadwaykid0129. Who is broadwaykid0129? BuzzFeed notes about the article's credibility, "This post was created by a user and has not been vetted or endorsed by BuzzFeed's editorial staff. BuzzFeed Community is a place where anyone can post awesome lists and creations." So can we trust broadwaykid0129? I'm gonna say maybe...but we do know all of the schools that broadwaykid0129 is applying to. This just is another example of how you can't trust everything that is posted on the internet.
I am glad we made number one, but buzz feed?
I agree with Jason. I've seen many of my peers post this in the past few weeks saying things like "Wow, look at us!!" while this article is not backed up by anything concrete whatsoever. What's to say that one of us is broadwaykids0129? While I'm honored that this random persons regards our program so highly, I can't help but not believe them. You can't trust everything you read on the internet, even if that thing is complementing you. However, the basis on which the poster judges their subjects is rather fair. It's a good range and breadth of topics. I would love to see more on CMU than just its alumni.
I too agree with Jason about the credibility of this article. Who is broadwaykid0129?? I do appreciate seeing article like this as a student of Carnegie Mellon and am proud of the school I go to. Although, at the same time, reading article like this, especially when rank is based on Alumni, seems to put a bit of pressure on current students. Im not worried that CMU Drama students won't be successful, but at the same time it seems that in these articles the rank for success is based on how many awards and recognition you've received. Many Alum don't even stay in entertainment but might go into engineering, business, or medicine. How can articles like this one measure that kind of success?
Ok I've seen soooooooooo many, like hundreds and thousands of website that ranks the best so and so universities and I think it's cool, like Jason said, it keeps reminding me of how awesome Purnell (and People of Purnell aka Us) is. But I remembered going through these ranking websites a lot during my interview preparation, and while some of them sounds sensible to me, I figured there are so many websites that sounds very unreasonable and looks like it just a ranking depend on personal thoughts and references rather than realistic. So..... This is Buzzfeed, And CMU is number one, so..... Go CMU.
I guess it's cool the be number one (although, looking at the new walk of fame and Tony Awards photo booth, maybe we could do without another ego boost), but Buzzfeed isn't a very credible source. This seems more like "broadwaykid0129's List of Colleges I Would Like to Attend." But it does raise the question of how much credibility matters. A lot of people read Buzzfeed, so a lot of people will see this list. No publicity is bad publicity seems to come into play.
And, here's to hoping the article helps you pit yourself against the other 3,000 applicants to the musical theatre program, broadwaykid.
I think its great to see us on another number one list for musical theatre but i would echo what others have said. There are new rankings coming out all the time, so as much as I like being number one on all of them, most of them really dont matter. This one in particular. I like how this guy broke down the criteria that he used to judge the schools on the list, but this article was not written by buzzfeed (the reliable news organization that it is). it was written by a buzzfeed user. Who knows who this guy is? I'm glad he thinks so highly of us but I'd like to see some credentials
I'm so glad to go to school at CMU, and seeing articles like these make me really happy to attend. It's really cool to go to a school that's always showing up on these best drama school lists, but I feel like this list means next to nothing. It neglects Juliard and Yale, which tend to be on every one of these lists, like CMU. I was skeptical clicking the link because it was a Buzzfeed article, and the article was even more disappointing than I expected. Also, there's a disclaimer at the end of the article from Buzzfeed discrediting the article as a reliable source and saying that they don't endorse it. I'm glad to see CMU at the top of one of these lists, but I wish that the list was from a more reliable source and that it didn't feel so biased/made by someone who didn't really do their research.
I agree with both Jason and Katie, the credibility of this article is extremely questionable and even more importantly it doesn't give any valuable information about the individual programs, besides notable alumni. If I was a high school senior trying to decide on which conservatoires to apply to, I would want more information about the program structure and their individual missions of each program so i could make sure I was choosing a program for more than being the alma motor of my favorite celebrity. This article is not useful for the population it seemed to be written for.
