oooooooooooo, aaaaaaaaaah. These are things that as an apartment renter from one of Pittsburgh's many slum lords *ahem* friendly landlords, I look at and think to myself "maybe one day I will be able to buy/ have a house made and when/if I do I am sure these will make it to my radar" Until then that last item looks like it could be really cool. A belt that rotates. It seems like one of those simple things that could have been around for much longer, but for some reason just made it into the world recently. It would be hard to judge it without trying it on, but it definitely looks like it would be helpful for a lot of different applications.
Theres a lot of useful and interesting products on this article.
The Panda Windows look like they would be a welcomed addition to any porch adjacent wall of the house. In the summer it would be easy to open up the whole house for cooling and parties a great way to incorporate nature and fresh air onto your house. In the winter, if the insulation of the windows are any good, it would help by keeping the house warm by keeping out the harsh wind but allowing the warming rays of the sun in to heat the household.
Another innovation I would be interested in investing in is the TrakBelt 360. I have found through experience that the convenience of having all your most needed tools on your belt can be instantly replaced by a large bothersome mass attached to your leg that is preventing you from working properly. I could see myself using this tool belt when working on decking, as there is no tool-belt currently on the market that is comfortable both while I am on my back and on my stomach.
The quick door hanger was one of my favorite items, at first I thought it was a way to allign hinges but That is not the case, It is intended for already hinged door frames and installing the frame with much more ease. easily on my top 10 least favorite things to do, installing doors is easily on that list.
The 360 Tool belt is decent idea but Not honestly I problem I have faced very often, I like having my tools in particular spots so that I can reach them without having to think about where I left them last. I hate knowing holding something up with one hand and reaching for a tool that I for some reason left it on the opposite side for some random reason. Since I know that I usually keep the drill on my right and my Tape on my left i know where it always is when I need it. While the 360 belt is a cool idea to be able to swing what you need around. I could see this being more useful for Camera Assistants and Pa's who are typically carrying less and need to swing it out of the way.
I am a total geek for cool new products for renovations and house redesigns but I was really expecting something more from this article. I was hoping to see some really cool, maybe high tech, but at least creative and innovative new products. I feel like a lot of these are really just a subtle improvement over a already existing product. Even worse than that, I feel like the products that dont fall into the "subtle improvement" category are just cheaper alternatives to high end products on the market. Like there is fake stone so you dont have to buy real stone, and there is panda doors so you dont have to shell out 10k for martin doors. All in all, I'm pretty disappointed.
i tend to always read the articles that have "product" or "tool" in the title simply because i love things. i like seeing cool innovations or neat designs. This article didn't disappoint. the window lock sensor isn't all that great i don't think, i mean, maybe i don't understand it but it doesn't seem to be that helpful in day to day life. The deck fastener. Its a good idea but kind of an oxymoron. it is a spacer that fills in the space... the whole point of having spaces between boards is so water doesn't get trapped on the deck and rot the house or ledger board. and yes decks are supposed to have a .5-1˚ rake away from the house but the space between the boards is what mainly keeps water off, so having a filler between the boards is pointless. also, if you are building a deck i don't think you are worried about the number of tools you need... The exterior panels, they are cool but nothing ground breaking. porch floor, seen it. folding door, seen it. quick door hanger, NEVER SEEN IT! THATS AWESOME and so smart. there is only one thing (in construction) i hate more than hanging a door (drywalling) this (looks like) it would make hanging a door so much easier. i want to try it. the last three are nothing special, nothing id buy, the building material is nothing new, the skilsaw is cool but id still prefer worm drive and the tool belt, when I'm having trouble gong through a passageway with my tool belt i just turn 90˚ and go through sideways
