Changing of the Guard

wolfbrown.com: Many people have written about the need for non-profit arts and culture groups to have board-approved succession plans for addressing planned or unplanned leadership transitions. Foundations often require grantees to have up-to-date succession plans, as a governance “best-practice” metric and, sometimes, as a subtle prod to those with long-time leaders, especially founders, to plan for the future.

I'm a little surprised that nobody has yet commented on this article, particularly because we are the people who will be in the positions that need to be filled as the masters of the generation before us begin to step down. If we can't make a good impression off the bat, despite our training and skill set we may doom ourselves to not being able to fulfill our true potential as working designers, performers, and managers. No matter what trade you go in to, hit the ground running. The simple steps laid out in the article could make a huge difference in the real world where there might not be as awesome a community as we have in Purnell.
