30 For 30: Lessons Learned From Years Of Tuning Sound Systems
Pro Sound Web: It was 1984 when I first sat in front of an FFT (Fast Fourier transform) analyzer during a concert and made decisions about tuning sound systems. I’ve been doing it ever since, and have written a lot of articles and a few books about this, but these are usually very focused and detailed.

I love this article. I remember reading it in the last issue of Live Sound International and liking it there as well. I think that the way this article is merely giving tips from a professional who has been working in the system tuning field for a long time. System tuning is something that has always been of interest to me and it is something I hope to make some sort of career out of. In the few times I have tuned systems I have really enjoyed it and found myself to be pretty good at it. I find the tips that this article outlines are useful in many ways. One thing that I noticed more this time than the first time I read this article is tip 27 which discusses measurement mics. I have recently been trying to work on my sound engineer tool bag and I am currently researching measurement mics. The trouble I am having is whether or not I should save up for an expensive mic like an earthworks or whether I should just buy 2 cheaper mics. After reading this tip I think that I will end up getting the cheaper mics and have some more money to spend on an interface.
