2014 Pro Tool Innovation Award Winners

Pro Tool Reviews: To innovate is an action. Innovation doesn’t take place by standing on the sidelines and observing other people doing what they do. It’s trying something and failing, then figuring out how to make it work. It’s seeing someone modify what’s already there and working it out as a standard feature in your own design. It’s raising the bar for what can be done. It’s breaking through limitations. It’s not listening to the doubters that say “it can’t be done.” It’s about physics and chemistry working together with engineers and product managers to produce some of the best tools on the planet.

Seeing how quickly tools are improving and how companies are innovating to make tools better is awesome. How could anyone possibly improve something as simple as a hammer? Well Milwaukee figured it out. Making tools lighter, stronger, more efficient, and better in every other possible way benefits everyone. The most interesting trend I'm seeing is the ever increasing cordless tool market. With improvements in batteries, motors, and electronics, many cordless tools are actually outperforming their corded counterparts. I think this trend will continue and maybe one day in the not too distant future, corded tools will be phased out completely. The other most interesting innovations are in the hand tool market. There are tools that you would think are so simple that they couldn't possibly be improved but companies are doing it anyway. Irwin has completely and radically redesigned the shape of their plies to be more comfortable and efficient. The tool market is always expanding and innovating and I'm excited to see what the next big advance will be.

Every time I see a list of tools I always get so jealous because I want all of them. Now when I see a list of the best of the best, I am tempted to go on granger or northern tool and just buy all of them, but I don't think I have the personal budget for that. These tools are so remarkable. To think we went from an old black and decker corded drill to the amazing pieces of machinery today is remarkable. There is so much innovation it is unbelievable. And as tool as innovation is with power tools its so cool to see innovation in fasteners and hand tools, items you don't think ever change. New drill bits? really? who comes up with that. I guess the ole expression don't fix things that aren't broke" no longer is a thing because last time I used a drill bit it worked just fine. But I am glad that there are always improvements
