Teachers Texting Students with Complete Privacy

www.lifehack.org: Remind 101 is an app that lets teachers text their classes, without revealing their phone numbers, or even having their students numbers!
It is a great communication tool for the modern classroom.

This video has completely blown me away. How ridiculous that students now need their teachers to text them to remind them to do their homework. What skills is this teaching kids??? It doesn't matter if you pay attention to when your homework is due or what the assignment is, the teacher will just text it to you later. Where is the responsibility these kids are supposed to be learning?! If you can't handle remembering to do your homework without someone texting you, then maybe you deserve to fail the assignment in order to learn some responsibility. It's also incredibly inappropriate for a teacher to be texting students, whether its anonymous or not. A teacher's place is in the classroom, not texting students outside of school hours. If I were a parent, I would not be comfortable with my grade-school-aged child getting texts from their teacher. It's things like this that really scare me about the upcoming generation, and about where technology is leading our world today.

From watching the video, I think that the app is well built, it's simple to use and it has a cool concept.
However, I really question whether this project helps or hinders the education process.
Why should teachers even text students to remind them to do their hw? According to the video "Studies who get sent a text reminding them of assignments complete more assignments."
Ok, so the students complete more assignment. But if the teachers remind the students to do their hw regularly, do the students learn time management? Do they learn to stay organized and to keep track of their work?
Sure maybe they'll remember to do more hw but they won't learn all these really important life skills of becoming an independent and responsible worker. It's like baby feeding the students.
So I don't really understand how this could help the educational system...
