Gulf Tower gets in on the action during ballgames

TribLIVE: The lady in Section 318 leaps to her feet, pointing to the top of the Gulf Tower across the Allegheny River as its lights explode into a celebration dance of black and gold. “Look at that!” she exclaims to her family above the din of music and fireworks in PNC Park trumpeting a home run by the Pittsburgh Pirates' Garrett Jones.

This is a great idea, and I'm actually really surprised that something like this hasn't been installed sooner. It's a great way to bring the community together. Like the article says, even if a person can't be at the game, as long as he or she can see the skyline, they can know what's going on. This is a fun way to bring even more excitement to a favorite Pittsburgh past time. I wouldn't be surprised to see things like this popping up in other cities around the country. The system seems like it would be easy enough to install into a building, and it is very easy to run if all you need is a computer and an internet connection.

I agree with Jess on bringing the community together. Before I read this article, I never thought of any incident where a building that is the most iconic structure in a city lights up its LED when the city's sport team scores. I think this is a brilliant idea that no other state could think of. Especially, as for many sports fans living in Pittsburgh, this functions as a linkage. If I was the fan of any of Pittsburgh sports team, I would also be delighted by the sight of the LED and be proud of it. Especially, since I have been to Mount Washington where I can see the skyline of Pittsburgh, I know Pittsburgh has such an awesome skyline. So, I think it is great for the tower to be symbol or signal of victory, which will then excite the spectators even more.

The city has fallen in love again with the Pirates, and so have I. Throughout the years the Steelers and the Penguins have constantly been the talk of the town over the Bucs, but thanks to a great season this year and more and more press taking interest in the team, the Pirates are popular again. The possibilities of this increase in popularity could be extremely beneficial for the city. It means more financial gain for the city as well as a higher income of visitors to see the team play.
