Reading this article, it makes Google+ sound like every other social media site out there. According to this article, there's nothing new about Google+ that you can't already do on Facebook or LinkedIn. If you use a Facebook page as a professional tool and keep it updated with that idea in mind, it will do everything that this article says Google+ can do for you. You can share links to articles and sites related to your work, which a lot of people already do. It offers you the chance to expand your network, which Facebook is also already used for. You can learn information that will make you more marketable on Google+, which you can already do on Facebook by following related companies and people in your industry. Google+ allows people to search for you, which almost everyone already does on Facebook. In fact, this is commonly done through the Google search engine, no + account necessary. What are the advantages of having Google+? According to this article, there's nothing it has to offer that other social media sites can't already do for you. Though it does offer Google Hangouts, which is a pretty convenient way to have class if the professor is out of town and all the students are in different locations.

Unlike Jess, I believe that Google+ offers unique services that make it different from more common social media platforms, such as Facebook. What strikes me as the most unique is the fact that Google+ prioritizes your information when someone whose circle you've joined looks for information that is relevant to you. Of course, the person would have to be using the same key words in their search as you have used on your Google+ profile, but hopefully you've done your research and you are using keywords on your page that make sense for someone in your field. Facebook doesn't allow for this sort of connection unless someone happens to see that you've posted an article about a certain topic or that the work you have listed on your profile is in a given field. Also, it would be weird to be Facebook friends with a potential employer. This article pitches Google+ in a way that makes it seem more like LinkedIn, a social media site on which it wouldn't be weird to follow your future employer. What worries me about this is the fact that Google+ just doesn't seem all that popular. LinkedIn seems to have a larger and more various user base, so I would feel more inclined to focus my efforts on using that site to get a job.
