Foam Party Ends in Some Seriously Fucked Up Eye Issues

jezebel.com: Foam parties, where strangers grind on other strangers while being sprayed down by giant hoses containing poisonous bubbles, have apparently been causing the CDC some heartache. After a foam party in May of 2012, Florida's Collier County Health Department was notified by law enforcement and hospital personnel that approximately 40 persons had sought care at local emergency departments because of "severe eye irritation and pain".

Other than the grain of salt you have to take with anything posted on Jezebel.. uhh what?! I've certainly never heard of a foam party, but I guess it sounds like I definitely don't want to attend. Perfect breeding ground for all sorts of nasty bacteria. Although I suppose if you put on chemical splash goggles you might be good to go!

On a sidenote, I wonder what kind of automation the night club had set up for timed and routine foam aerial dispersal. "3, 2, 1. Foam go!"

I've actually heard of foam parties, although I don't think they're too popular back home.
I think the foam phenomenon is just the tip of the iceberg when dealing with the club scene.
I think most of the people who go to night club aren't really aware of the medical consequences of what they're doing... for instance drugs, alcohol abuse, STDs, and now foam.

It makes sense that foam would be made from soap, which typically causes eye irritation when it come in contact. To have a good foam that doesn't cause irratation you would need some pretty gross chemicals that are probably not good for your skin and eyes. When I first read the title of the article, I was imagining that the damage could be irratation and pink eye. I would never expect 11 of the 44 patients to be in such a poor condition that th couldn't be tested. I can't even imagine how painful this could possibly be. You would think the company would test to see if this product would be safe for the public to be exposed to.

It is a party at a club that ended with people at the hospital, who cares? Nickel shot night would probably cause the same number of hospitalizations. People are going to do what they want to do in night clubs and if people have a bad experience they should not go back. If grinding on people in a giant mess of foam is your thing one incident in one club probably is not going to stop you from going and enjoying the other clubs doing that. Is the foam really any less hygienic than body shots and is it any more dangerous than saying "hold my beer" before getting on a mechanical bull. If you are going to that specific club buy some goggles and enjoy yourself.

I would be lying if I said I was super surprised that a foam party resulted in some kinds of gross after-effects. I mean think about it, you are being sprayed with soap that then washes all the nasty grime off of you and splashes it around everyone else. Its an obvious breeding ground for some kind of diseases. I have heard of foam parties before and I don't think I'll be attending one any time soon, not that I planned to before reading this article.
