Vectorworks in the Cloud and Possible iOS App

iSquint.net: In a teaser email the Vectorworks just sent out, they demonstrate an architect on site in the middle of a build project looking at his drawing on an iPad. He notices a detail in incorrect. He notifies his design team and it is quickly “updated in the cloud”. Does this mean that Vectorworks will be living in the cloud?

the use of iPad, iPhones, and other mobile devices has begun to make an impression on the theatrical community. Lighter designers and ME's using IRFR on iPad to replace tedious RFU's and Shops can now utilize Autodesk to access various scenic and technical drafts with out having to wait for a designer to call back to give a dimension. Its about time that vektorworks catches up with the movement since ETC's IRFR was one of the first theatrical utility apps to come available. Just hope they don't disappoint with some half lagging app missing half the actual utilities of Vektorworks as some app developments have done in the past

This is exciting. For a while now lighting systems have lived in the iOS world and it would be incredibly convenient to have vectorworks and programming right alongside it as well. I am 100% for the"move everything to the new technology" movement and encourage as technology advances so should software. I think unlimited opportunities can be made available through the application of everyday softwares to every technological platform. I hope that the tease leads to just what it suggests and look forward to what else vectorworks does as well as other companies joining the iOS bandwagon.

I am really intrigued by vector works and other modeling software moving to the “cloud.” Several companies have hinted that this is where they’re going. The cloud really presents a lot of cool features that modeling software could pick up. For instance, everyone could work off the same drawing in real time. It would make it much more difficult to be looking at the wrong copy or draw an incompatible part. It could be used to draw parts in tandem allowing for parallel development of sections in a project. I think a lot of people are afraid of the “cloud” and what it means about the future of computing but I think it’s the next logical step and we should embrace it.
