Pittsburgh Musical Theater's 'Spring Awakening' well worth the visit

Post Gazette: There's a moment you know you're seeing something special. In Pittsburgh Musical Theater's "Spring Awakening," it comes when Logan Williams hits all the right notes as Melchior in the second song of the show. His leading lady, Kathlene Queen, has already set the stage for positive things to come with a voice that should have the audience settling in for a memorable night.

I always feel it is beneficial to read the reviews of productions from other companys. This particular spreads a great light on the PMT's production and signs praises to the cast and crew. And while praise is always a good thing, I think that reivews are always helpful no matter their content. These reviews spread the news of theater for the good and the bad. For the audience, you get a chance to see what is worth seeing and what is not for you. As a theater practicioner, I am able to see breif overviews and ideas of shows all over the USA and even the world. Theater reviews allow the people within our industry to examine and explore each others work in a condensed way.

I personally try to avoid reviews of shows especially those that i have a personal obsession with. I try to walk into any show with minimal expectation for the sake of taking more from the show. I already spend enough time watching the tech of shows instead of the actual performances. Thats generally my indication to the quality of the performers and the performance is whether or not I'm more interested with what lights they are using.
I make a special exception for spring awakening. especially Pittsburgh musical theatre's utilization of underage actors for the leading rolls who from the word of this review are not letting down. On the contrary to this review, i have heard some personal reviews that weren't to fond of this performance of the punk musical.

I first heard of Spring Awakening in 2007 when it was new to Broadway. It was the talk of our high school and everyone in theatre wanted to see it. Although I never got to see it on broadway, I did see a high school production of it as a one act play. I enjoyed the show but missed the music that came with the broadway version. The songs words bring out the essence of the show and bring life to so much of the actors emotions. I hope I am able to find time to see this production and finally see the songs performed live.
