I really hope having stars in your show is never "necessary" for success. Theatre has almost never been just about the one famous person, and I don't think it should be. Dozens of people contribute vital things to make shows what they are. Sean West once said something like, "I'm not going to go to a play to see XXXX actor, I'm going to go to a play because something cool gets blown up" (Not a direct quote)
