SAG Board of Directors Approves Merger Package With AFTRA

Backstage: The SAG board of directors Friday approved a proposed merger with AFTRA, bringing the two unions a step closer to uniting, eight decades after they were founded on opposite coasts and during very different times. The move was expected, as was the new union’s name: SAG-AFTRA.

When it comes to Unions I have mixed feelings. Some are Very helpful while some do no good what soever. In california EMT unions are some of the worst and most counterproductive unions I've witnessed. On the other side I have been apart of the Lifeguard union for 3 years now and they have helped keep lifeguarding positions open for people like me. When it comes to the entertainment industry Im a strong advocate for unions because it makes everyone working in the industry less expendable. The idea of combining Sag with Aftra I think is actually going to work out fairly well. it cuts that middle line out of trying to figure out if an actor is actually in the correct union to hire them. How ever the question is going to be will the joining of these two unions make it even harder to get into it.
