I enjoyed reading this article because AFTRA is a union I am less familiar with in terms of their inner workings. Since they represent a lot of musicians, I was glad to hear that they seem to have reached a very reasonable agreement with recording executives regarding contracts for singers. I hadn't known how complicated the relationship was between recording labels and unions, so that was interesting to learn about. There are separate contracts for singers, dancers in music videos, voice-over artists, etc. I wish this article had gone into more details for those of us who hadn't been following the story of this negotiation closely, but it was still good to learn about.

With how desperate and litigious the recording industry has become over the last couple of years I am surprised that the contract did not have major concessions from AFTRA. This seems to be a great deal for AFTRA and I am impressed by the commitment from their leadership to include the benefits package that they got ratified. This is an interesting win for an entertainment union in this polarized climate.
