Behind the Scenes: Flying With Cirque du Soleil Aerialists at ‘La Nouba’ at Downtown Disney
Disney Parks Blog: I recently headed backstage to learn more about the performers in “La Nouba” by Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney. There, I met Anna Cueller, Captain of the Silks, who was kind enough show me a thing or two about aerial ballet, one of the many amazing acts performed in the show.

So beautiful. I never cease to be amazed by arial work, especially when it is on the silks or "tissue" as it is called in the video. I have not seen a Cirque show yet but from the brief videos of them that I've watched, all parts of the shows are equally stunning as this arial work. I think an opportunity to fly on the silks would be absolutely amazing and would make me appreciate the work those artists do everyday. Much respect.
Being a dancer and a ballet performer is incredibly difficult in itself but to to add to the difficulty level is putting this in the air. I am really curious as to how these performers ended up performing for Flying with Cirque de Soleil. Maybe it is some kind of extension to dancing with the security of the ground directly under you. I think the thing that scares me is the lack of harnesses and the way that it doesn't get to the performers, they are still focused on looking graceful and poised. The instructor seemed very patient, and in her line of work I would expect nothing less. It is great that she is able to direct such an unusual band of performers and she isn't caught up in the performance but in the art. This was especially evident when she corrected her interviewer, she knows style and what she expects from anyone interested in her art.
Cirque du soleil as anyone knows is a world class show and I have always had a fascination with it. I got the opportunity to work on a Show called cirque berzerk that was a much darker style show but still incredible talent and skill. while working there i had the opportunity to try out the trampoline and the arial silks. the silks was the most physically exhausting thing i have ever tried. Cirque performers across all skills will always have my respect. Cirque will never cease to amaze me and i hope one day ill be able to work with Cirque du soleil
The aerial acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil performs are always so fantastic and beautiful. They never cease to amaze me. It takes so much strength and elegance to do these performances. I would love to see La Nouba and I wish that they explained more about how they are able to perform these acts.
