Tyro Technics: Young Designer To Watch, Anthony Mattana
Live Design: Anthony Mattana, Sound Designer and Composer Home base: Brooklyn, NY Current project(s): A workshop with The Deconstructive Theatre Project: The Orpheus Variations; Execution of Justice at New School University
Seeing CMU alum get recognition is always fun and a bit inspirational, as it gives us hope that we may one day receive recognition as well. In this interview, I can definitely detect the attitude of many CMU grads. Though I have been here for a relatively short time so far, the people that surround me - both upperclassmen as well as my own classmates - have a remarkably positive attitude. I think it is important to learn to take successes in stride and brush off failure while still learning a lesson from it. I'm sure I will continue to develop these skills through the rest of my time here.
I agree that the recognition is great for the school. I would also like to add that I think it is great that Anthony has been able to get out there and do so well for himself right out of school. It speaks a lot about him as a person as well as about the school, in particular where he hopes to take his life within the greater scheme of "the industry" with combining design and composition. It is great to see what a person can do when the skills and mindset instilled here collaborate into new ideas, especially with sound since there is still quite a bit to be discovered and created.
