Assistant Professor
The Department
of Theatre and Dance at the University of New Mexico seeks an Assistant
Professor of Technical Direction and Production Management beginning August
2012. RANK: Assistant Professor. SALARY:
$45,000 per year, with full benefits. This is a probationary position leading
to a tenure decision.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service: Qualified candidates will be able to teach all aspects of
technical direction, including but not limited to all levels of stagecraft, and
stage management. Manage all aspects of department’s scene shop and three
producing facilities with one other full-time employee. Work with faculty and
student scene designers in the implementation of their designs and technical
production elements. Supervise, plan, and coordinate the budgetary, design and
technical aspects of the department’s production season and facilitate an
occasional rental. Organize and run the
weekly productions meetings. Generate appropriate calendars and maintain
deadlines. Manage the department’s three theatres and scene shop to safe and
professional standards.
Ability to teach production management, computer-aided drafting and design (CADD), automation, and mentor student stage managers is highly desirable. A working knowledge of welding, rigging and metal fabrication specifications is also desirable.
Teaching: Three courses per semester, with possibility of release time for productions
Artistic/Scholarly activity: The
candidate should have and maintain a national/ international presence as a
theatre professional in the areas of technical direction and/or production
management.
Minimum qualifications:
M.F.A. by appointment date or equivalent professional experience.
At least one year of teaching at the university level.
Record of professional activity.
Preferred Qualifications:
More than three years of teaching at the university level.
Sustained record of university and/or professional technical direction and/or production management.
National and international presence as a theatre professional

The Department of Theatre and Dance has 250 undergraduate majors and Masters degrees in Dramatic Writing and Dance. It produces two main stage theatre productions, and one faculty dance concert in a 412-seat modern proscenium theatre, and two main stage theatre productions in a 100-seat flexible black box theatre.
