Opera season to blend classics with 'vibrant' settings of lesser-known works

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "Planning an opera season might be compared to three-dimension chess, but the mental work must pay off in emotionally intense theater. Pittsburgh Opera's 2011-12 season will offer a fresh blend of repertoire with singers chosen for their fit with specific roles.

What a great idea. A season like this gives the public what they want, doesn't it? We are able to revisit or experience for the first time classics, while being exposed to works that are fresh to the general public. I think this upcoming season could go over very well. I am interested to hear how the lesser-known shows do with stunning and vibrant treatments. This season could really be something great.
