Autodesk: The Secret Star Behind Oscar-Winning Visual Effects
Fast Company: "No matter which film walks away with the Oscar for Best Visual Effects on Sunday, one organization that has previously made Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list will be a clear winner: Autodesk. Every single movie nominated this year--from Alice in Wonderland to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, Herafter to Inception to Iron Man 2--used its software to craft some portion of their effects.

When I think Autodesk I always think about AutoCAD like many other people. Knowing their software has been in many of these productions and is capable of these effects, more than the standard drafting program, is spectacular. I have always know there are other programs which are used for visual effects, but never Autodesk. The tools which Autodesk produces are great because they are so versatile and can be adapted and used in many industries. As the entertainment industry steals many tools from other industries the flexibility and versatility is key.
The complete autodesk suite is insane. Whats even more interesting is their suite of tools can be used in conjunction with Automation, like the fisher system we have here, to show and program live movement before your on site. For a large film, you can figure out, by pre-vis, where you would want a shot to work out and then transfer the information over to an automation system which will interpret the motion paths. And that's just one example of the many of how autodesk's products can work for our industry.
Someone told me that when you think about how much of auto cad we use, it boggles your mind at how much more it can do if you needed it.
