TIME: "At this year's Grammys, the five nominees for Album of the Year have something peculiar in common: they were all were mixed or engineered by graduates of Full Sail University. In fact, this year's Grammy-nominated projects were worked on by 74 alums of Full Sail U in total.

I raised an eyebrow when I saw the headline, and raised it further at "Full Sail is well respected in the industry," because that is inconsistent with everything I've heard colleagues say about Full Sail; its graduates' reputation, as I understand it, is that they come out with lots of gear-specific training and varying work ethics. It was good to read what seems like a well-balanced article and learn good things about the university.
I'm a little disappointed that this isn't run by the Full Sail Brewing Company up in the Northwest, but it's an interesting article. I've never heard of this school, but it basically sounds like an ITT-Tech for entertainment. I guess it says something that all of those Grammy nominees were mixed by graduates of Full Sail, but it's possible that it's a statistical anomaly - the kind of people who end up mixing Grammy nominees are the same kind of people drawn to this type of school. They might have the drive and knowledge before they go there, and graduating from there might not mean anything at all to their career. I'd be interested to hear from other industry professionals what the program is actually like.
I actually looked into there live event program years back. It was essentially a bachlors in being a roadie. Their resources always have sounded impressive but in the end, it was a ITT-Tech school that was really expensive. Thats not to say that they don't produce good people, because they do when it comes to gear and equipment like Daniel said.
Don't join their mailing list. It's been years and I still can't get them to stop spamming me.
And i agree with Sam. I wanted it to be all about the brewing company too.
