Intiman Theatre mounts $1M emergency drive to fund 2011 season and beyond
Seattle Times Newspaper: "The Intiman Theatre, one of Seattle's flagship drama companies and a Tony Award honoree, must raise $1 million by September, in addition to its planned annual goal of $1.75 million, or it cannot meet its production expenses for the season, says Intiman board president Kim Anderson.

Having to raise another $1 M in "an emergency fundraising" drive is quite the amount. You would think that when you reach a point where $1 M is needed you would see it more in advance. Since they announced they were having financial difficulties last fall you would also expect them to tone down their scope of shows, but it proves their commitment to great work and the entertainment community. Kim says herself that the importance of keeping Intiman going does not only include the shows but for the individuals.
Yes, you would think that they would have done something to bring down the budgets last year, but as they say, their whole financial crisis is a product of mis-management. Unfortunately, this happens a lot - negligent or just unskilled management brings a company to financial ruin. It is a shame that they did not do something to address the management concerns earlier, before they found themselves in such dire financial straits. I hope they can raise the money, but it's going to be tough. It would be a shame to see them go.
