Like any organization, when a theater gets new management, it is a tricky time for everyone involved. Like the author said, there is a fine line between change and continuity. You don't want to radically alter what has been working for the company before, but at the same time, you were hired because the organization likes your opinions and point of view. It is an interesting time for a theater to undertake such a large change in management as they are moving to a new space and in the economic environment in which stability is key. At the same time, a new leader in a new location may be the best as this new person may be able to start more from scratch.
I thinks its beneficial to the company that Sullivan has worked with them before. I think he understands them as a troupe and he also has a keen understanding of keeping the company's legacy while also bringing something new to the company. Mr. Sullivan also faces unique challenges in inheriting this position with the added challenge of dealing with the economic changes being made and having to potentially deal with the economic troubles down the road. I wish him well in this new endeavor.
