It's so rare that we hear about something *actually happening* in a legislature that sounds so simple. Assuming that this really is as clear-cut and one sided as this article makes it sound, I'm glad to hear of a law that actually does help out artists in a meaningful way, without harming consumers (as the relevant lobbies seem to always be pushing for.)

I'm actually fairly surprised this issue even came up. If I had a political agenda...this for sure would not be on it, (no offense), but I'm really glad someone thought of it, and that it passed so easily. Those scams are really easy to fall for if you don't know what you're doing. I definitely got cards to a few places that were only after money when I was little. My dad was a lawyer so I had a bit of an advantage, but to be honest, I never actually realized this was an important issue. I thought it only happened once in a while and not very often at all. Props to legislature for getting something useful done!

The only upsetting part about this article is that the law is restricted to California. Our industry has made so much progress since the "couch" audition that it's exciting to see solidified enforcements against the abuse of entertainers. I can only imagine it's worse out in Southern California where everyone is striving for their start in Hollywood and crawling any path that may get them there, any chance to make it (Depending on how desperate you are, which there are a few). Now, maybe we can start working on enforcing stronger drug policies.
