Gold, Romance Merge in Sparkling ‘Finian’s Rainbow’
Bloomberg.com: "There’s a little bit of everything in the musical “Finian’s Rainbow”: Romance and satire, whimsy and cynicism, fairy tale and political diatribe. It is, above all, good. Revived last season in concert form by “Encores!’’ and duly enlarged, it has now transferred to Broadway."

I am glad to hear that this show is being recieved well. I remember last week when there was an article about how there was some hearburn about some of the plotlines and the racism in the show might hinder the show's success. I am happy that the hard work of the actors and team is shining through, and once again I think that it would be an ineresting and fun shoe to go and see.
I'm happy to see something so satirical but still fanciful on stage. So many plays intent on 'selling a message' never let themselves have some fun. This play seems to be very light and fun, but still packs a powerful message. I always appreciate a show that doesn't take itself too seriously. Even in tough times, a little lightness is needed. This looks like a lovely, light-hearted reprise.
It never occurred to me that leprechauns and racism might show up as main components in the same play but the unexpected is in this case not at all unappealing. I have to agree with mrstein in saying it's refreshing to see a play that addresses an issue without eliminating room for whimsy. Beyond that Irish and Southern culture dovetail each other in certain ways I hope the play touches on. Both have a rich history of song and dance and I'd love to see the show to see how the two styles might merge.
