I went into this video expecting to not be impressed and make a comment about how the robots were clunky or how I was worried about it being safe for the robots to be so close to humans. After actually watching the video, I am legitimately impressed by this production, and the state that these robots are in. I did a little bit of digging, and you can buy one of the robots pictured in this video for just $20k off Amazon right now. I had thought that this level of control and particularly motion control from robots was still many years away, but this video has proved me wrong.
From a theatrical perspective, I do wonder if this video was actually taken in a single shot with everything working perfectly or if they had to do runs multiple times and only edited together the best clips. I am also very curious how much effort was put into keeping the performers safe, particularly given the fact that they are just kids. These robots have enough power that they could easily hurt a person, and I hope there was an Emergency-stop system in place.
