Sonic NEXT Ratchet Set Review: High Strength, Premium Quality
Pro Tool Reviews: If you want to open a can of worms in an auto shop, just start asking which ratchets are the best. You’re sure to get plenty of opinions, but for the discerning Pro, the Sonic NEXT ratchet set might just top them all.
I got my hands on a set, and I’ll share what I’ve learned, including who they’re a good fit for and whether this is the only ratchet set you’ll need.

Sonic is not a tool brand that I am very familiar with. However, their ratchet in this article seems alright. The biggest stand-out to me was the tooth count. With only 60 teeth, it will take 6 degrees of rotation before the tool will bite and be able to tighten. While we don't often have to fit into such tight spaces in our world that we would need less than that 6 degrees, it's not uncommon for mechanics to deal with that issue. Which is the market that the Sonic Next Ratchet set is aimed towards. I can't help but wonder why the decision was made to go with the 60 tooth design. The article also mentions that the ratchet can produce up to 50% more torque than is required by ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) so I wonder if tooth count was sacrificed for that strength. Personally, if I was a mechanic, I would probably be willing to have a little less max torque if it meant I would have an easier time working in tight spaces.
