Manchester City plans immersive venue next to stadium
AV Magazine: Manchester City Football Club has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for a new immersive event venue at the Etihad Campus.
The venue, which will be next to the UK’s largest indoor music arena, Co-op Live, will host the immersive theatrical dining experience Mamma Mia! The Party.

An immersive venue! Oh my! If anyone knows me they know I love immersive theater… Oh… it's Mamma Mia. I'm not sure how I feel about this. granted I'll have to do some more research on what exactly this “ Mamma Mia! The Dinner Party” entails but it feels more like a site specific work than an immersive work. my guess is it's set at the hotel in Greece, audience members dine as the character story happens around them. “ Donna serving your wine then all of a sudden jumps under the table as her exes are seated at a table across the room” that sort of thing. who knows maybe it's more clever than that, I just have a vendetta against mamma mia, and juke box musicals in general. The concept of building more immersive venues is interesting. I'm curious as to what the specs entail and how flexible it is to other immersive experiences coming through. Or will it only be outfitted for a dinner-like experience. I feel like some of the best immersive theater goes hand in hand with site specific theater either at non-traditional theater venues or completely outfitting a theater venue to appear as a non-traditional setting, so I'm curious how effective an immersive made venue would be.
