Wicked takes Point Source Audio on international tour

LightSoundJournal.com: Point Source Audio’s SERIES9 headsets and lavaliers are providing the sound quality and flexibility to ensure the current international tour of Wicked is captivating audiences every night for its runs in Saudi Arabia (December 3 – January 3), Bahrain (January 13-17), UAE (January 28 – February 15), India (March 12 – 29) and Kuwait (April 21-25). The large-scale Broadway production presents a number of miking challenges, but for Sound Designer Shannon Slaton, Point Source Audio could provide all the answers.

Wicked was the first musical I saw after Broadway really opened up post-COVID. The show itself, coupled with the overwhelming emotions of the return of theatre, moved me to tears. Knowing that this show has been on international tour brings me so much joy. It is interesting to see how the microphone placement works around the integrity of the costumes and h&m rather than trying to force itself upon it. Once in high school, I was working on a production where corsets were added to the costumes but the microphone techs were not aware, so the actors were miked and then corsets were tied super tightly over transmitters (that were not ideally placed) and then everything was sort of out of whack. This is a great example of how theatre works best when it is treated as the collaborative art that it is. I think it is especially cool how newer lavs can be color-matched because that creates more inclusivity and also makes things easier for h&m and costumes.
