This season is actually a little bit perfect. It’s got a great range in terms of time period, audience age, themes, and so on. Starting with two classics, Giselle and The Nutcracker (the former with PBT Orchestra and the latter during the winter season) is a good choice. It’s likely to bring in a good amount of revenue for the most risky shows in their season and seasons to come. To continue with Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful choice (pun intended), and one likely to attract a wide audience. I am not familiar with the story as a ballet, but I’m excited to see it, given the chance. The first and only in the August Wilson African American Cultural Center is a contemporary program of new works, which I think will be a good addition to an otherwise less modern season. It’s a good way to bring in spring. Closing is another classic, Sleeping Beauty, again with the PBT Orchestra. Most are a few days’ runtime, but the Nutcracker - to no one’s surprise - is closer to a month, with the runner-up being Alice in Wonderland, being a little over a week.
