Houston Airport Switches on New 220-Foot LED Masterpiece
Sixteen:Nine: Thinking of airport experiences like the multimedia landscapes we know from travel hubs like Singapore or Orlando, there are really only two companies that come to mind: Moment Factory and Gentilhomme – both out of Canada. The latter of the two has now completed another stunning installation, a 220-foot (67-meter) cylinder LED display at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas.

This article is awesome! As a native Houstonian, I feel obligated to respond to this article. Traveling is one of, if not my favorite things to do in life! That travel usually starts at the airport, so I have many warm feelings associated with it! Houston is massive, so we do have two of the largest airports in the country. George Bush Intercontinental is so nice, and I do fly out of there more often because it is a United hub. I do fly out of Hobby Airport sometimes. It is nice too because it is much closer to my part of town, however there are fewer flight options there. I actually just flew out of Terminal E at Bush when I came back from Spring Break! I saw the area where this was being installed, however it was sadly barricaded off. I will definitely be looking forward to seeing this awesome LED display next time I’m in Terminal E!
I am of a seemingly rare group of people who enjoy spending time in airports. It is inspiring to see the many people with many different lifestyles all brought to the same space in order to travel to places near and far. I am fascinated by the idea that any of the people that I walk past could be traveling to see family, traveling to work on some big project, embarking on an adventure in a different country, or even just going back home after a well spent vacation. I love when airports install new features, it keeps the experience of travelling through the airport feel less like you are just there to get from one place to another and makes you feel more like you are walking through a museum with so many different art installations to take in. It helps provide entertainment and peacefulness for when you get to the airport earlier than expected or when a flight is delayed.
I think it’s so smart to put displays like these into airports. Airports are filled with people all over the world, and they can also be stressful sometimes. I think all airports should have some kind of visual aspect that people can appreciate. This one is pretty unique, I love the overall shape of the screen, it gives more depth to the architecture. It’s also able to be admired from all angles, rather than it just being a flat screen. I’ve always enjoyed traveling by plane because of all the different things I can see. Most airports have some kind of visual aspect. When I flew out of Pittsburgh airport for the first time, I loved the design of the terminal and the entrance out of TSA and into the gates. I think having well designed portions of the airport make the overall travel experience a little more enjoyable rather than stressful.
I have always found it funny that a lot of places that have huge LED displays and incredible amounts of money for expensive equipment often aren’t the places you’d expect. I was surprised to see this article that talked about an airport with a huge brand new LED video wall for their travellers. I think this would be super cool to see in person and see a bit of the controls to work with the surface. I am especially interested in the circular shape and learning more about how that would affect the install and design processes for this wall. Reading about some of the tricks they had to employ to get this to fly was super cool. I am impressed that this much work and thought can go into making an airport display. It highlights that there is work in production tech anywhere you might want to look. Additionally, I think I am going to visit the Houston airport now.
