This may be weird of me, but I have now spent a significant amount of time reading ESTA standards for fun, particularly for DMX, 0-10v control, RDM, and various rigging standards. When I saw this I was initially very confused because I thought there was a new standard for Sacn, but it looks like it is only a small change from the previous version. I am very interested to see if people actually implement E1.54, because I think that it could be revolutionary for the lighting industry. Right now the communications between controllers and fixtures about color information vary significantly, and require vastly different amounts of processing on the fixture and controller side, depending on the color rendering capabilities of the fixture. My hope is that this standard could allow a controller to just select a color, and then the fixture could do the math to figure out its output based on what it knows about it’s own color mixing system. While this would be great, I am also skeptical about how quickly it will be implemented by manufacturers. I am looking at the rollout of GDTF and MVR files from manufactures, which has been slow at best and resistant at worst.
