The theater industry's most influential tool for all departments has got to be a printer. The Carpenters rely on printed technical designs to properly construct the scenery, the lighting department utilizes printed hang crew to assist the technicians during installation, and stage management utilizes large amounts of paper to create many physical documents to ensure the show runs smoothly. With printers being a constant presence within the industry I find it interesting that we have yet to utilize many printers' ability to create backdrops, flooring and wallpaper. One application that I had not thought of before that the article mentioned was a printer's ability to create backlit graphics. The theatrical industry spends a large amount of time connecting how each department will coexist especially in regards to scenery and lighting. Having the ability to self construct a normally purchased element allowing two departments to work in tandem would lead to a better overall production process.
