Congo Square ensemble members say in letter that the prominent Black theater was quietly dissolved

I’ve always really appreciated writing that instills hope for the future, and that’s what happens here. The conflict that has been outlined in this article is very shocking and disappointing, but Davis cites the ensemble’s continued effort and hope. While their company did dissolve, they’re working towards operation under a new nonprofit, and renewed perspective on creating good art, centering the artists and community. On the other hand, the lawsuit was a super shocking issue. That out of a remaining million dollars, $240,000 was donated to Victory Gardens Theater is such a shocking and concerning occurrence. It raises a bunch of questions that I hope the lawsuit answered for rightfully upset ensemble members. Whatever led to that decision never being communicated to the group hopefully has been properly prevented. It’s very important to have these strong independent groups. I’m very hopeful, as the author seems to be as well, that Congo Square Ensemble’s new operation is possible and successful.
