A Different Lane: Microphone & Mix Considerations For Conference Audio

ProSoundWeb: If you hang out in a church tech booth long enough, you’ll eventually find yourself mixing some type of conference. It might be internal, regional or open to the world. Conferences have very unique challenges, most of which can be solved by careful planning.

I have done mixing for some conference-style events, and this article gave me some good ideas for the next time I do it. What I found most interesting was the idea to patch the same signal into multiple different inputs on the console. This allows different processing, aux sends, and faders to be used for the same mics when they are being used for different purposes. The way that I would have thought to do this naively would probably be to set up multiple scenes in the console for the different positions, but I think that the separate channels is a much cleaner solution. The process of setting up multiple scenes could easily cause complications, and keeps you from using scenes for other purposes. It would also be a lot harder to switch just some of the parameters, and adjust the feeds of 1 input while the other is live.
