The motors and gearing of different robotics

I think that it will be increasingly important for theatrical technicians to understand at least the basics of robotics. Theatre is an ever changing medium and I think that there will be several applications of robotics in the coming years. While it's possible that the traditional implementation of robotics could see some use in theatre I think that it's more likely that we'll see things specialized for theatre. After all moving lights are essentially just robots with only a few degrees of freedom with a light attached. Perhaps the majority of the technical details mentioned in this article will be handled by the actual Engineers but technicians with at least a working knowledge of robotics might soon have an edge in the theatre world. I think that in a general sense the intersection of so many crafts is what makes theatre unique and special. While admittedly little engineering in theatre is complex enough to compare to an actual engineering firm I think the seamless integration still makes it very interesting compared to traditional engineering.
