Robert’s first review of Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe
www.themeparkinsider.com: Imagine a world’s fair for stories. Instead of celebrating nations and corporations, each pavilion would celebrate a story – a hero’s journey, or perhaps even an anti-hero’s.
Human beings are built for story. Before we formed nations – and long before we started corporations – we told stories. Through stories, we made sense of the world around us and passed that understanding along to others. At its foundation, our civilization rests not upon the polity of nations or the profit of corporations, but upon epics – upon stories.

OH! MY! GOODNESS! I have been waiting for Epic Universe for SO LONG!!! I can not believe that it is finally here! As a native Floridian, everybody always asks which park is better, Disney or Universal. My answer for the longest time was Disney, but I suspect that with the addition of Epic Universe, that might completely topple Disney. I believe this because my favorite part about modern theme parks is the immersive environments. I was so excited when Disney added Star Wars land, not because I love Star Wars, but because I love being fully immersed in a world. That is why I think Epic Universe will take the cake, because it is fully immersive worlds, but with words that I love and hold dear to my heart! Like I can not tell you how much I want to walk around the Isle of Berk. I was talking to a friend of mine who works there right now and she was saying that the earliest she would recommend going would be the end of this year, because of truly how busy it is right now.
Spring break 2026 anyone? This is the second article that I've read about Universal's up and coming Epic Universe. In the span between reading these articles, my Instagram feed has been Flooded with Isle of Berk content. Disney has always been the top tier I have theme park experiences for me. For me it's all in their overarching theme that ties together all of their different experiences and franchises into one family of stories. This magical ingredient has been missing for me and all other theme parks including Universal Studios. Universal Studios Hollywood while fun is a once every five years experience. Their modge podge of different characters and rides is fun but lacks a cohesive story that brings audiences back time after time. But their new park seems more promising. The structure mirrors that of Disney with the central Hub that branches out into different universes. But I like Disney lacks the transitions between the universes, a seemingly perfect metaphor for their lack of cohesive story.
As a fan of fantasy and storytelling, I am thrilled that there is going to be an attraction such as Epic Universe. From the pictures that I have seen, the park looks incredible; it seems fantastical, like a place where magic feels within reach. The amount of detail put into each aspect of Epic Universe proves the dedication that the team that put it together has to creating a magical and unique experience for visitors to the attraction. While I have never been to Universal Studios, I have always wanted to see the incredible place in person. Every time I hear about this attraction, it makes me so excited for when it finally opens. I hope that I can visit the park and see it for myself, ride the rides, and experience the space. I love theme parks, even if I haven't had much chance to see them, I admire how complicated the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the experience is.
Okay to I’m actually going to this with my dad and brother this summer, so it’s great to see a review. The name Epic Universe feels super clunky to me, and I feel there could have been a better choice, but who am I to judge? I’m sure there was Pepsi Universe-type reasoning for that decision. I do like the vision unification that this has brought, though. Transferring the more superhero actiony stuff out of Islands of Adventure feels like the right move, the Marvel and DC IP rides always being an “Oh! That's there!” type of genre in the location. As always, Universal’s set designs are so beautiful and tasty. I wonder if Universal/Disney is the modern equivalent of St. Peter's Basilica (not to get too blasphemous on here). Think about it: Multimillion-dollar corporation, owns the government (or at the very least my state government, which is a whole different can of worms), massive elaborate structures, wide influence, etc. Unfortunate that the modern H.P. Lovecraft of bigotry (J.K. Rowling) is getting another park, but I’m pretty sure any new money she makes doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of how much money she already has. I know it's Universal's more profitable relationship, but it would be nice to see other IPs get a park instead of a THRID Harry Potter park.
