Another Day, Another Project Breaks Ground in Downtown Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Magazine: If it seems like a big chunk of Downtown is under construction, that’s not an exaggeration.
And there’s more coming as the official groundbreaking of the 4-acre Arts Landing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 29.
Demolition of the Goodyear Auto Service store on a corner of the Cultural Trust-owned property is making way for construction to begin on the $31 million Eighth Street civic space.

I definitely think that “a lot of construction” is a pretty apt way to describe the general vibe of downtown Pittsburgh. As someone who often takes the bus downtown, I am constantly frustrated by the detours and relocated bus stops as a result of construction downtown. This whole renovation project sounds really interesting, and there’s a lot of pieces of the project that I think are particularly exciting additions to the downtown area. Obviously, more greenery is always great in city spaces, and the addition of more public bathrooms alongside this public space is great. I’m definitely interested to see if this project, along with the other projects mentioned in the article, do in fact manage to be completed by the time the NFL draft rolls around. It sounds like a pretty aspirational goal for such big projects, but perhaps it’ll be pretty consistent work for the next year. I wonder if the big storm caused any issues with the ongoing construction.
