Olney Theatre Center announces 2025/26 season
DC Theater Arts: Olney Theatre Center announced an ambitious, premiere-forward lineup for its 2025-26 Season that includes two world premiere musicals, one world premiere play, and one U.S. premiere drama. The season unites established theater luminaries like Lauren Gunderson, Zhailon Levingston, and Nova Y. Payton; rising star writer/composers Ari Afsar and Joriah Kwamé; award-winning UK theater artists Daniel Bailey and Tyrell Williams; and DMV resident (and celebrity chef) Carla Hall, all in one expansive season.

This season is so exciting! Their choice to have three world premieres and one U.S. premiere is fantastic. I always love hearing that theatres choose to stage new works in their seasons because I think that new works are so important to the future of theatre as an art form and the vitality of the theatrical landscape. I also find it fascinating that the two non-world premiers that they chose were Hello, Dolly! and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. The former is a very traditional musical that is done a lot, and the latter being a less well known musical. I wonder how those musicals will exist in a dialogue with the new works that they are producing. I hope they were chosen intentionally to complement or contrast the new works. I am always fascinated to know what goes into choosing theatre’s season and the various factors they consider.
