I LOVE ME SOME TYLER!! He has recently become one of my favorite artists to listen to. He has great music and mixes that I love to listen to while working, exercising, or skateboarding. I would love to mix or work with Tyler, the Creator at some pont or other big artists. Something that seems really fun about working with big artist is the challenges with really weird and extravagant productions. The example given in the article is Tyler had a performance on a barge in the Hudson River while the audience was on a pier. This kind of new challenge is what I love about live entertainment: its never the same, you always have to create new ways to solve issues or work arounds. What’s more is there is so much sound and variance in a performance like Tyler. They said that he can go from normal speaking level to blowing mics on a dime, meaning that mixing and controlling that different of sound can be incredibly challenging. I would love to work on music like Tylers, I think I would have made it in life if I did that.
Modern tech is so cool. Only 20 years ago just being able to connect an iPad to your setup and control it remotely was completely unheard of. Honestly it’s so cool to see how theater has evolved to include newer tech in innovative ways. Tylers music through his many eras let alone within his albums are very different from eachother so it’s nice to see people talk about working with those dynamics and how it influences their mixing style. Tyler’s music benefits from both effect heavy and very stable style depending on the song so it would make sense to have both people in the mixing equation that could help bring out the best in each of his styles. Can’t imagine what it would be like to do all of that inside a rattling storage container, definitely not a job for the claustraphoibc crowd. Every time I see a video of hers shows I’m probably going to point at a storage container and go “there’s sound stuff in there” from now on.
