L.A.'s production woes worsen: Soundstages go unused, shoot days decline

Los Angeles Times: Los Angeles’ soundstages once were nearly filled to capacity, as demand for streaming content reached its peak. But last year, the average annual occupancy rate dropped to 63%, a further indication of Hollywood’s sustained production slowdown, according to a new report.

I have had conversations with people about this topic and heard about it in classes. Something that I have been told that I think could be missing from this article is the growing popularity of using other cities and their film studios to film. While I know that the strikes and economic hits play a large role in this issue and were definitely part of the motivation to go elsewhere to film there. I would be curious to see data about locations outside of LA and if they have seen growth. I do not expect that to be a wow. Everything is actually ok and this article is lying but I think it is an important thing to add to this conversation. Overall, it does make me sad to see this data and knowing all the hits LA has taken with the pandemic, strikes, wildfires, etc it unfortunately makes sense. I just hope the industry in LA goes up from here.
