Free summer tickets to Pittsburgh attractions are already available
nextpittsburgh.com: RAD launched its Summer Staycation program, which puts tens of thousands of free tickets to Carnegie Museums, the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium and other local attractions into the hands of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County library cardholders, on Tuesday, April 8. You can start visiting some destinations as early as today, April 10, for free.

This is a great use for tax dollars. It gives the public a prepaid cultural experience that primarily benefits lower income families. Pittsburgh has lots of opportunities that are great experiences and being able to see those attractions using free tickets is a great draw. It seems like an underused program as well with just over half of all free tickets used over the previous summer. Hopefully it will get even more usage but over 53,000 free tickets only tied to a public library card is very achievable and easy to use. With gaining a library card being as easy as providing an address and a five minute visit to the closest library it is an unobtrusive way to gain access your public funds. It also displays the usefulness of the public libraries and all the services they provide. I’ve easily over two hundred dollars worth of books over the past five months that I was able to get digitally on my phone with the press of a few buttons (and sometimes a sizable wait).
Reading this article makes my heart so happy because not only our kids being exposed to our living in the city with such amazing architecture and buildings all around, but having the summer state vacation program where all of these art, museums and national history centers and everything like that are being opened for kids for free allows them to be exposed to so many more art and so many different cultures and places that they aren’t exposed to daily or aren’t exposed to if they don’t go to museums or any other places like that as a child, I didn’t necessarily love going to museums, but I think that it has made me the person that I am that my parents brought me to so many different places and so many museums because I appreciate other cultures in various art pieces so much more. The exposure to art has made me realize that without it. Life is so dull and severe if you can’t step back and just look at the world, art, life, love, and nature in it. I also love that Broadway at Pittsburgh is having an announcement. Hopefully, more kids will be watching theater as well and having the public amenities like regional parks in public libraries is honestly such a fantastic opportunity for kids in the Pittsburgh area.
