A programming contest sounds like a lot of fun! I have been wondering for a while just how much programming I’m going to learn at CMU or if a large part of it will be self taught. I know they’ll teach me some things but I just don’t know the depth of it. We’re also going to learn some in our lighting mini but again, that’s just a four hour workshop. However, since I can’t make the four hour workshop, I have a deal that I’m going to go on ETC and look up their board and programming tutorials and write an essay about what I learned. I think that’ll be super fun, because I can practice practicing programming on my own, if that makes sense. It will be very important for me to be able to teach myself anything I need to learn. I really want to get good at programming, and especially I want to try programming moving lights because they’re so fun and beautiful to look at . Also my high school did not have leds or moving lights so I really want to work with them.
This is really cool. It’s interesting that it is billed as primarily a programming challenge when to my eyes it looks like it’s really a design + programming challenge. Whatever year I end up taking entertainment lighting programming hopefully this is still going on so I can give it a shot. Augh, and you get to go to LDI … Whoever created the plot for this must have been having fun! I don’t think I’ve seen an actual triangular or diamond truss in my whole life, and basically the entire thing is made up of diamond and triangle trusses. I may be out of my depth here but it does seem a little frustrating that the prize is a viz-key when the project itself seemingly requires you already have some kind of visualizer software. It would be nice if it were designed such that you could enter regardless of your or your institution’s gear.
