Titanìque Musical Will Dock in Paris Next Year

Playbill: The hit musical, an irreverent send-up of the blockbuster film Titanic, will play the Théâtre du Lido on the Champs-Élysées beginning April 24, 2025. Jean-Luc Choplin will present the international hit, which recently celebrated its 1,000th performance Off-Broadway at the Daryl Roth Theatre.

I hadn’t heard of Titanique before this article, so this was a good introduction to it. It seems lighthearted and full of fun and romance. It's impressive that Paris is the sixth city to host, after Sydney, Montréal, Toronto, London, and Chicago. The existing photos of the production are also impressive, with glamour and lights reminiscent of the movie. I find the backlighting of the set’s panels to be visually interesting and grounding in the musical’s locations, I’m sure. This parody of the film Titanic has Céline Dion at its center and includes many of her songs. I love the idea behind the show, which lends itself naturally to humor. The set, on first glance at least, seems elegantly simplistic. The costuming is equally simple, but that’s all it needs to be. This is, again at first glance, an enjoyable show, but I would not suspect it to be life-changingly philosophical.

I love this show! It was the first, and so far only, off-broadway show I have ever seen. I went to New York City a few years ago and my dad insisted we go to see this show. I was skeptical going in because I had only seen Titanic once many years ago, and only sorta knew a few Céline Dion songs, but I was pleasantly surprised. The set was a fun multi-level design that abstractly communicated that they were on a boat and fit the idealized titanic world that Céline Dion inhabits in the show, and the whole thing was incredibly funny. One of my favorite scenes was when the actors are forced to improvise a scene that Céline Dion did not remember due to being intoxicated the night before. Overall, I hope this show makes its way to Pittsburgh so I can see it again with a renewed appreciation. was incredibly funny.
