"I Felt Horrible Doing It": This 'Squid Game' Star Actually Hit His Scene Partner and Had To Apologize While Filming

collider.com: It’s shocking, to say the least, that Seon-nyeo being slapped in the show wasn’t something that was faked and added in post-production, but actually the result of her being slapped in the face. It’s one thing to slap your scene partner, but to have to do it several times to get the right take was likely one of the hardest things Sunh-hoon has ever had to do on set.

While I think that doing something physically during filming can add to the realism of the show and be more authentic than if it was added in post-production, I think that it can be a double-edged sword if not done correctly. While this article is short and we don’t have both actors' perspectives on the scene, I think that it’s worrisome how the actor describes the director as “on the spot” asking him to slap his scene partner. If something physically violent like this is going to be filmed authentically, I strongly believe that it should be discussed at length beforehand, possibly with an intimacy coordinator, and discussed with both actors to ensure everyone is comfortable with the scene. I also think that check-ins should be done every take, to make sure that the actors are both still alright to continue and don’t need to take a break. Intimacy coordination goes beyond sexual or romantic scenes, and should apply to any scenes where physical contact is being made to ensure the actors safety and professionalism. I hope that Squid Games ensured safety and comfort on both sides of the situation.
