Marya Sea Kaminski Sets Exit Date From Pittsburgh Public Theater
onstagepittsburgh.com: Marya Sea Kaminski, who guided Pittsburgh Public Theater through the pandemic shutdown and embraced innovative technology and community outreach, is departing the company after seven years as artistic director.
Kaminski will stay on until July of this year, while the 50-year-old company’s Board of Trustees, in partnership with Management Consultants for the Arts, launches a nationwide search to name her successor.

In discussing and hearing about the great leadership and innovation of Marya Kaminski as she helped guide from Pittsburgh Public Theater, it makes me wonder about what it means for a great leader to step down and when it is the correct time to step down. I often feel (albeit I haven’t had the time to have a several year long interaction with a particular theater organization) that I remain heavily tied to institutions that support me and that I am able to support in return and that once I have established connections it becomes more difficult to step away from certain expectations (both from myself and others) to continue to support that work despite potential wishes to move past that particular work. That is to say that I admire Marya Kaminski for doing what she believed in and for leading the Public through the pandemic and leading them well after its initial struggles, but also now realizing she hopes to do different work these days, even though she remains connected to the organization.
