‘It’s our Olympic opening ceremony’: Dynamo, David Hockney and more unite for Bradford city of culture
UK city of culture | The Guardian: Slathered in mud, the magician formerly known as Dynamo emerged from a five-tonne mound of earth. It was 2022 and Steven Frayne had just buried himself alive, a magic trick that even Houdini never successfully performed. In the coffin-sized pit he dragged himself out of, Frayne left behind the weight of expectation that came with his alter ego, having spent two decades creating impossible, death-defying performances as Dynamo: floating above the Shard; walking across the Thames; levitating below Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.

From the inside out. A famous magician decides to move from displaying the magic within him to helping others find the magic in themselves. Theater is a uniquely individual and communal experience. We must first focus on self discovery and development to then put art into the world for others to experience. You can’t fill others buckets if yours is empty. In order to put ourselves into our practice we first need to take care of ourselves to be able to show up for each other. We work towards progressing our career, reputation, or wealth. At some point we’ll reach a point where we’ve fulfilled all we sought to do in which we then need to focus our attention, outwardly. To the people and places that got us there and give back to those communities and people. Whether that's donating our money or time, this is an integral part of giving back to the next generation of theater makers that will come after us.
