This technology is now reaching certain levels of science fiction that 10 years ago seemed unachieveable, and it is exciting to see how this technology will continue to progress and the applications it will have worldwide. More exciting though is the potential advances this will produce for the theater industry, and while we will likely have to wait a few years for this product to develop more or even more years to able to afford the technology, it seems that this will become an incredibly useful tool to better incorporate video and media into scenery and props to further bring creative ideas to life and allow for more precise control of these effects. ‘Magical’ creations particularly within props could benefit significantly fron the use of these screens and provide exciting opportunities for more collaboration between departments in design and further suspend reality for the audience. Not only is this a marvel of engineering, it surely will be marveled at for years to come.
THIS IS INSANE!!! While this is definitely wasteful and harmful for the environment and overall just unneeded, i love this and i need one. I hate to admit it. I cant help but think about the artistic possibilities this holds as a sculpltural material. Because this tv screen is stretchy, it would be amazing as a textile for costumes or clothes. This could also if large enough attach and stretch over walls for installations, which could undermine the use of projections or be used as an alternative to them. The tv is made of similar components to contact lenses, which also begs the question of can these be put into contact lenses? Is this what the microchip they put in our brains connects to?? A contact lens with a screen that monitors everything we do?? Who knows. Regardless of all this, it seems very convenient to attach to firefighter’s uniforms. This should 100% definetly definitely be attached to police officers uniforms, which could offer so much information in crimes and criminology, it would also be more convenient than just body cams.
I believe that this falls into the “befuddling” category of technology. I cannot fathom how they made this and how it is engineered, but am incredibly excited and wowed by it overall. The idea of a screen you can stretch is mind boggling after having seen so many attempts over the years. There are so many interesting applications of this that I can think of and what might be possible.I’m curious to see how this expands out to other industries and applications. Either way this is an incredible innovation. I would love to see the applications this has for wearable technology (as mentioned in the article) - honestly it seems like the possibilities are pretty vast. This is a type of technology that was so far-fetched not to long ago and I’m curious to see how it continues to evolve. And hey, maybe one day I’ll get to experiment with it.
