CMU launches Pathway Program to expand education accesibility

The Tartan: Carnegie Mellon has launched the Carnegie Mellon Pathway Program, a new initiative designed to make its renowned education more accessible to students from low and middle-income families. Announced on Nov. 20, the program guarantees tuition-free education for undergraduate students from families earning $75,000 or less annually and eliminates loans from financial aid packages for those with household incomes below $100,000.

I think it’s great that cmu is doing this as someone who’s family is within that 75,000 threshold at times I would often worry about my financial aid decreasing as I went through college and was scared that I would one day need to take out a loan to pay for college in the future but now that cmu has done this my fear is alleviated. I’m sure a lot of preparation has gone into this and cmu must’ve done a lot of research on how many students this will effect and specifically how this will effect themselves as a university, this must be a major cut in their finances as the students they’re helping financially are a big cut of students in the university(it must’ve taken years to gather enough money to do this and continue doing this from now on) however I’m sure they put a lot of thought into it so I’m sure they have a solid plan
