South Korea Says K-Pop Stars Aren't Classed As Workers
Business Insider: South Korea's government on Wednesday dismissed a workplace harassment case involving K-pop star Hanni, saying the singer was not legally classified as a worker.
Hanni, a member of NewJeans, recently testified in South Korea's National Assembly as part of a larger hearing on workplace harassment in the industry.

I feel like the article is at least a little bit facetious. It sounds like from what I read that only Hanni is considered more as an independent contractor based on the contract that she signed. I’m not sure how her workplace treats her, probably pretty bad if her fans sent in a complaint to the Ministry of Employment and Labor in South Korea. If she is being coerced into staying in the band and the contract that is a separate problem but she should have the ability to enter and leave any contracts and obligations that she has entered into. Given the estimated amount she has earned this year alone, she should be set for the rest of her life. From a personal standpoint, being in a negative and controlling environment for your work and feeling like you can’t leave is an awful way to live. Hopefully her fans are more concerned for her than they need to be.
