Whenever Disney puts out a new stage show, you know its going to be spectacular. Technically, they always have the most intriguing special effects, costumes, and impressive audio design. I have had the privilege of traveling to Walt Disney World many times throughout my life, and each live performance I have seen there was amazingly technical. They often bring in animatronics, and recently for some shows the mascot costumes can blink and move their mouths. It's truly magical to see! Outside of the theme park, I have also been able to see Disney on Ice several times. At each of those performances the costuming and technique was equally as outstanding as the ones in the parks. Seeing the set pieces turn around to represent a completely different movie, or watching the lights contribute so heavily to the story, always made me want to work on the show one day. I have no doubts that this new performance is going to be just as good as any of the others, continuing the legacy of high-level performance and class Disney has come to be known for.
While the article on Disney's upcoming "Mickey Mouse World Tour" shows disney’s latest marketing initiative, i think its very important to question the broader implications of Disney's influence on children and culture. Disney has long been accused of manipulating young minds through its pervasive media presence, shaping values that often reflect corporate interests rather than moral integrity. Pushing us to spend more money on mickey mouse. But i ask the question again and again what does mickey mouse himself really stand for???? Mickey Mouse, as the face of Disney, has become a symbol of control, feeding into the consumerist machine that Disney perpetuates globally. While this show like the rest of the entertainment industry is a distraction, art always pushes us to see something more. BUT disney and mickey mouse are just colors and shapes and sounds for parents to show their kids to get them to shut up. Shows like this are done over and over again just to get us to shut up.
